Present Lightness
Welcome to Present Lightness.
What does it mean to be in a state of “present lightness”? When I practice Reiki, when I’m “in the zone” working on an organizing project, when I’m in the flow of a delicious restorative yoga pose, laughing with my children… this, is present lightness.
The feeling is one of being in the body, yet beyond the body — being in touch with the soul and the things that make it sing with utmost joy. Being in present lightness means all the “gears” have clicked into place as you experience life fully. You are so present you forget about time. You are so present with your body that you almost forget about the mind, and so present with the mind that you almost forget about the body. You’re in it. Doing it. Living and breathing it. Experiencing it and feeling it. So much so that you feel light. Free. Almost weightless.
How we arrive here is individual. However, there are proven methods which can positively influence and contribute to our ability to experience more frequent “present lightness”. Practices like yoga, meditation, self-reflection, and keeping a clutter-free, organized home all play a role in helping us release the heaviness and embrace the light.
Life can weigh us down. Absolutely. Drama, chaos, surprises, struggles, hassles… life isn’t always smooth sailing on a sea of shatter-proof glass. But, we can build up nurturing “defenses’ that help us weather the storms and keep us from spiraling.
Enjoying a hobby, or intentional moments that make time disappear. You’re so “in it” that your soul sings and your energy feels light and airy because the passion and love for what you’re doing makes you feel like you’re dancing on clouds.
Take time for stillness. Whether you set a timer and meditate, or practice slow, intentional stretching, or restorative yoga, slow your body and breath. We’re always in a hurry, and our energy can feel it. Slow down and savor - your mind and body will thank you.
Create intentional spaces. Our physical spaces can either be a detriment, or a salve for our well-being. Clutter, mess, too much physical “stuff”, disorganization all slow us down, stress us out and tie us up mentally and energetically. When we clear, de-clutter, re-home and organize we shift and free up energy. Getting rid of physical stuff - trash, things we aren’t using, things we must release -- makes us feel lighter. Objects are mass. Mass = energy, energy = mass (perhaps overly simplified, but the point is, what surrounds us weighs us down).
Get intentional with your time and clear your mind. Plan your days. Keep to-do lists. Brain dump your thoughts. Move that energy from your head to paper. You’ll feel lighter and more present because your mind isn’t clogged up like rush-hour traffic.
Marvel at the small things. Find beauty in the intricacies of a flower petal. Find shapes in the clouds. See the entirety of the Universe in one grain of sand. When you zoom in, you get really present. When you get really present, you feel lighter because you’re not weighed down by the “should’ve/need to/want to’s”… You’re here. Now.
