Faces
A client and I got to talking about the fact that for as long as we can remember, we’ve searched out faces in our surroundings. Faces in wood grain, in ceiling tiles, in the clouds… It somehow became a thing to really tie us to the present and seek out something that made the corners of our mouth turn upward.
I recently introduced looking for faces to my son as a method to calm down, and he delighted in this and continued to point out faces he saw in our wood floor.
My client and I talked about how seeing and delighting in these hidden faces allowed us to be one with our environment. We agreed that when we are not tuned into our surroundings and the present, it’s like we’re walking around with a hazy piece of plexiglass between us and the rest of the world.
Many of us have felt this sort of awareness from time to time. And, many live out their days never really seeing beyond this fuzzy partition. Of course life has its seasons of survival mode and hardship, all part of our unique experience. In these seasons it can be challenging to relish in the present… but, there’s something about looking for faces in nature, or in the world around us that helps to connect us to what’s external and ground us.
From an energetic perspective, when we invite a bit of lightness and openness into our days, it creates space for new perspectives, people, opportunities and little synchronicities to make their way into our lives.
So, see what you discover in the clouds, in the trees, or when you stare at popcorn ceiling tiles. Bring a bit of lightness to your day by finding smiling, scowling, or silly faces in unexpected places. Allow the hazy partition to melt away and let the outside world in… you never know what you’ll discover, or what you’ll open the path to, by being a bit more present.
